Limoges Vase

Limoges Vase

Porcelain vase of pear-shaped form with a long flaring neck, entirely hand-decorated in a style deriving from Orientalist models of Persian inspiration. The body, on a turquoise ground, is adorned with a dense white ramage motif. A central achromatic band features small gilded floral motifs in relief—executed by applying pâte to create raised details—and a sequence of oval medallions bordered with gilt beading and leafwork. Inside the medallions, fantastical multicoloured birds are depicted among flowering branches. Fine gilt lines further articulate the rim and foot.

Limoges (France); late 19th century early 20th century.
