Cantagalli “Iznik” vase

Cantagalli “Iznik” vase

Majolica vase with a flattened spheroid shape, narrowed at the top, and a short, everted neck. A central band with continuous rosette decoration, bordered by two raised bands, divides the vase into two hemispherical portions: the lower portion is pictorially punctuated by a geometric decoration of lanceolate leaves, and the upper portion is decorated with facing birds (parrots or peacocks). The vase is painted in polychrome, with a dominant color of bright green, in keeping with the 16th-century Ottoman earthenware tradition.
