Sculpture “Great Goddess” – Pietro Melandri

Sculpture “Great Goddess” – Pietro Melandri

Large majolica sculpture of a standing, nude female figure, with a slender body characterized by simplified volumes and opaque, textured surfaces. The lower half is wrapped in a drape decorated with graphic signs and archaic symbols in cobalt blue on an ochre background.
The small head with its absorbed face and abstract gaze, and the strong verticality of the body, reflect a cultured primitivism and give the piece a lyrical, metaphysical character.
Faenza;  around 1960.
