A porcelain paperweight depicting a bearded Hermes with a stylized face, reflecting a synthesis of archaic and Etruscan influences characteristic of Gio Ponti’s early creations for the Doccia manufactory. The head, resting on a square-based bust, features wavy, entirely gilded hair, elongated eyes outlined in gold, and a gilded beard and mustache. On the chest, a collar of spherical elements, centered by an oval lunette, supports a large ornamental motif of feathers.
This model, created by Gio Ponti in 1925, belongs to the series of Hermes-shaped paperweights developed at the beginning of his collaboration with Richard-Ginori.
