Polychrome majolica centerpiece with an oval basin, supported by four sculpted zoomorphic feet and adorned at the ends with two seated fauns, with goat legs intertwined with plant elements.
Above the basin is a high, wavy-shaped perforated pediment, traversed by scrolls and plant motifs and centered by a fantastical winged mask. The pictorial decoration alternates Raphaelesque motifs, spirals, and bowls filled with fruit with circular medallions featuring cherub figurines in monochrome white on a black background.
The richness of the sculptural and pictorial elements and the free combination of motifs drawn from the Renaissance repertoire place the work in the transition from Historicism to Eclecticism, which characterized part of Ginori’s production in the last quarter of the 19th century.
Doccia (Florence);Â late IV of the 19th century.
