Graffito and gold lustre vase – Galileo Chini

Graffito and gold lustre vase – Galileo Chini

Majolica vase with double handle. The graffito decoration, highlighted by the gold lustre reliefs that accompany the design, organizes the surface into sequences of oval reserves and lobed crescent motifs painted in blue enamel, alternating with stylized flowers painted in red on an iridescent ochre background with gold lustre dots.
The interaction between enamels, graffito, and lustre produces a vibrant surface, reminiscent of cloisonné enamel effects and the neo-orientalist tradition so dear to Galileo Chini in his decorative phases between Art Nouveau and Proto-Deco.
