Lithomorphic cup with satyr – Melandri

Lithomorphic cup with satyr – Melandri

Small, low-slung hemispherical cup with a compact, rounded shape, resembling a smooth pebble or a natural concretion. At the center of the hollow, a faun-like mask emerges in relief and seems to emerge from the material, as if sculpted from the rock, modeled with strong expressionist plasticity. The glazes and drips on the surface, treated with polychrome oxidative enamels in shades of coppery green, ferrous brown, and metallic gold, accentuate the mineral and magmatic appearance of the whole, reinforcing the object’s interpretation as an “animated stone.”
