Royal Copenhagen Liberty Vase

Royal Copenhagen Liberty Vase

Porcelain vase with an elongated ovoid profile, a short neck with a slightly flared mouth, and a slightly raised ringed foot. The body is covered with an underglaze glaze in shades of blue-gray, modulated in soft tonal transitions that reveal a dense motif of stylized leaves, almost backlit. A decorative band runs along the upper part of the vase, featuring ivory chrysanthemums with brown edges, alternating with broad, synthetically designed white waves. These allude to the trademark “three waves” and hark back to the naturalistic, Japanese-inspired style promoted by Arnold Krog in the early 20th century. The pictorial quality, the atmospheric rendering of the background, and the refined balance between floral elements and the wavy pattern of the upper band are fully consistent with Royal Copenhagen’s Krog-based production. Jenny Meyer’s signature attests to the execution of the decoration by one of the leading porcelain painters active at the time.
