Horse on rock – Angelo Biancini

Horse on rock – Angelo Biancini

Sculpture depicting a horse captured in a highly dynamic pose, its body stretched upward, its neck arched, and its forelimbs raised, while the hind legs rest on the base. Treated as an independent, rather than merely structural, base, the base contributes to the composition according to a unified sculptural concept. The mane is rendered as a compact and vibrant mass, consistent with a sculptural synthesis of twentieth-century influence. The entire surface, decorated with predominantly olive-green cast enamels and evident tonal variations, reflects the experimentation with different finishes pursued by the Laveno factory in the 1930s.
The model is part of the artist’s animalier research, characterized by a solid formal synthesis, far removed from descriptive naturalism and oriented towards a modern sculptural language.
