Gio Ponti “Triumphal Chariot” Vase

Gio Ponti “Triumphal Chariot” Vase

Large majolica vase with a flattened body on a flared oval base and a pronounced lip, entirely painted in jade green enamel and decorated on the front with a bas-relief inspired by ancient iconography depicting a winged figure (Victory) waving a banner while driving a chariot drawn by two horses.
This vase is a Richard-Ginori product designed by Gio Ponti around 1930 and belongs to a family of majolicas that favors sculptural expression over pictorial, while still incorporating certain elements from the latter, such as, in this case, the triumphal chariot, also recognizable in the ornamentation of contemporary porcelain.
