Plate “The Love of Antiquity” – Gio Ponti

Plate “The Love of Antiquity” – Gio Ponti

Porcelain plate decorated with chrome gold and hand-painted in blue and gold.
At the center of the plate, within a circular reserve, an elegant female figure appears to pay homage to a herm, symbolizing antiquarian culture itself. From this center, a series of herms arranged both frontally and in profile extends, connected by garlands and radiating outward toward the blue and gold filleted rim. The same filigree decoration is present on the back of the plate.
Doccia, Sesto Fiorentino (Florence); 1924.
