Porcelain snuffbox with a contoured profile, mounted in gilded metal, entirely decorated in relief and in vibrant polychrome and gold with a varied repertoire of antique-style trophies and panoplies, including breastplates, shields, plumed helmets, swords, lances, fasces, bows, arrows, quivers, banners, and insignia. On the lid, within a gilded laurel wreath, stands the profile in relief of Peter Leopold of Habsburg-Lorraine, Grand Duke of Tuscany from 1765, depicted in the style of glyptics and ancient medals; the effigy finds precise parallels in the numismatic portraiture of the sovereign. The decoration continues seamlessly across the four walls and the back, where a Roman insignia bearing the initials S.P.Q.R. appears, composing a coherent celebratory program inspired by classical figurative art around the portrait of the Grand Duke.
